18TH CENTURY ANTIQUE PHILADELPHIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT DROP LEAF DINING TABLE. BALL & CLAW CARVED FOOT. Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

With our highest compliments and utmost pride, Bay colony antiques is spirited to offer for sale this fantastic 18 century antique Philadelphia Chippendale walnut dropleaf table. Philadelphia Furniture and Philadelphia Chippendale in particular is one of the most iconic & desirable disciplines of American cabinet making. Philadelphia was home to some of the most celebrated American cabinet makers such as John Elliot, Benjamin Randolph, Thomas Affleck & William Savery. We're working with a few PA museums & historical societies to publish a study on William Savery furniture that we'll be releasing soon.

We're beyond excited to offer this to our clients! The table exhibits nice proportions & has a really nice scrolled out table box, well balanced cabriolet legs, & superbly executed ball & claw feet.

Outside of the Townsend & Goddard school of Newport nobody can carve a ball & claw foot like an 18th century Philadelphia cabinet maker. These institutional level cabinet makers we hold in such high regard today were furnishing homes of America's wealthiest families & lived along side our founding fathers. Weve attached a side by side picture of a near identical table in the Philadelphia museum. The museum's table is made of mahogany and ours offered for sale here is crafted from American black walnut. Walnut is the only native dark hardwood found in North America and this combined with its excellent workability made it a quick favorite among early cabinet makers.

The table is in wonderful condition and would make a fine addition to any home. The table measures 39" long x 18" wide x 28 1/4 tall when closed. When the leaves are open the top measures 39" long x 49 1/2" wide.

We are a wholly owned family business in our third decade of continuous operation. We have a large inventory of fine antiques ranging from Early American, Federal, Chippendale, Empire, Centennial, Victorian, 20th Century custom mahogany, Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern antique furniture along with decorative arts from across the globe.
