This almost 300 hundred year old card table has a few deficiencies from a water stain on the top and what appears to be a very old repair on the inside of a leg where it appears there was a gauge in the wood and a repair was made with a newer piece of wood that is still quite old. There are scratches and slight cracks as it is a 1730s antique that was used. As you can see, this is an incredible value and a wonderful opportunity for you to become only the second owner of this very fine 1730s antique.

The top of the table is turreted to conform with the form of the apron, being planed from a single plank of handsomely grained mahogany. It lifts over original hinges on the sides and creates a four person/player table and the result is a very stable card playing surface, which probably accounts at least partially for the excellent state of preservation we find in it today. The card surface is an original reddish damask that after almost 300 years is stained and partially missing but incredibly still there and with candle holders on each turret and four chip wells sunk into the top. Finally, the top also lifts over original hinges to reveal a secret hidden interior compartment for storing games. The apron is veneered with vertical grained mahogany, the centermost with an original pierced brass escutcheon around the keyhole.

The table is raised over bold cabriole legs with the most wonderful acanthus carving along the front knees - these carvings are deep and fluid, full of life and realism, both tapering into the leg which terminates in elegant carved claws grasping a sphere. For any serious collector of fine English antiques, this is an outstanding investment acquisition that in every way elevates whatever interior it becomes a part of.

It is exceedingly beautiful and in fine condition for its age and will certainly be a most cherished part of your collection. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for your interest.
