Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library, located in the Brandywine Valley of Delaware, is the most premier collection of American decorative arts in the world. The former home of Henry Francis du Pont houses a collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America between about 1640 and 1860. The collection is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the du Pont family lived there, as well as in permanent and 0changing exhibition galleries. Graduate programs and a preeminent research library make Winterthur an important center for the study of American art and culture.

In 1983 Kindel was awarded a license to reproduce important examples of furniture from du Pont's collection. Kindel sought to recreate the "best of kind" examples due to their complexity, authenticity and craftsmanship.

Through the demands of scholars and conservators at Winterthur, Kindel developed the highest standards of execution in the furniture industry. Standards of excellence gained through our experience with Winterthur set the course for how we build furniture today. Kindel Furniture - 83-814 - Philadelphia Piecrust Tea Table - This table features the uniquely American birdcage mechanism which joins the piecrust top to the column and allows the tabletop to either rotate freely, or be tilted up for easy and attractive storage against the wall. The legs represent the perfect S-curve of the times.

Kindel's reproduction is faithful to the original and requires 23 hours of hand carving to achieve the high level of ornamentation on the piecrust edge, the decorative column, and the fancy legs. The collection is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the du Pont family lived there, as well as in permanent and changing exhibition galleries.

Kindel sought to recreate the best of kind examples due to their complexity, authenticity and craftsmanship. Note: NO original wood pin present between top and base, there is a hole for a dowel. The dowel in its place is not original to Kindel. It functions correct, just not the original Mahogany peg. This would be the 83-814 Philadelphia Pie Crust Table.
