Late 18th century Ame ri can Chippendale antique hand painted, Japanned furniture & decorative accessories. Down Position: 30 in Height (when tabletop is down). Up Position: 44 in overall Height (when top is flipped up). 26" Width/Diameter x 26" Base Width.
In quite well-preserved overall condition, with perhaps only a single, slight scuff to the red lacquer and hand painted Japanned figurative landscape, featuring a woman wearing a brightly colored kimono amongst outcroppings of rock, with a pagoda, willow tree and mountains in the distance, realized on the tabletop surface. This late 18th century, circa 1770 to 1790 Ame ri can Chippendale antique tilt-top occasional or tea table, was lacquered with red enamel and antiqued with several layers of semi-transparent glaze over enamel paint, with a wonderfully realized figurative landscape illustrated on its large, round table top. This late 18th century mahogany antique Chippendale style furniture has a tripod base with padded feet, that support hand carved tripod legs that meet, connected and fastened together with heavy, hand carved dovetails at a reeded, columnar, ascending central pedestal, that's hinged to a wooden doweled mahogany wood block at the top, allowing the table top to lay flat or to rest in an upright position. It has early, decorative brass hardware that still open and close freely and once the table top is down, it clasps back together, holding the table top in place.
